WHEREAS, in 2010, the House of Commons unanimously passed motion M-416, which recognized the Srebrenica Genocide and established July 11th as Srebrenica Genocide Remembrance Day in Canada; and

WHEREAS, in 2024, Canada joined the list of sponsors of the United Nations General Assembly Resolution declaring July 11*h as the International Day of Remembrance of the Genocide in Srebrenicain 1995; and

WHEREAS, the Institute for Research of Genocide Canada is a public scientific institution engaged in analysis of crimes against peace, crimes of genocide, and other grave breaches of international law; and

WHEREAS, the Institute for Research of Genocide Canada proclaims June 11th to July 11th, 2025 as a month of memory of the genocide in Srebrenica;

and

WHEREAS, the City of Ottawa recognizes the importance of this event to bring closure for the Bosnian people through justice and truth;

THEREFORE, I, Mark Sutcliffe, Mayor of the City of Ottawa, do hereby proclaim July 11*h, 2025 Sebrenica Genocide Remembrance Day in Ottawa.
