The Bosnian American Institute (BAI) is a tax-exempt 501(c)(3), non-partisan organization representing the interests of Bosnian-Americans and in support of multi-lateral relations between North America and BosniaHerzegovina. Our institute has a strong affinity for the Institute for Research of Genocide Canada (IRGC) and its founder, Dr. Emir Ramic. The scholars of BAI cooperate extensively with Dr. Ramic and the IRGC on collaborative matters relating to our respective missions and purpose. In our interactions, we have found the work of IRGC to be groundbreaking in that it establishes facts and analyses that have previously either been overlooked or undermined. As such, these facts tend to raise eyebrows and are often perceived as being uncomfortable for one party or another. The reality is that those parties feeling most uncomfortable are currently in the process of either denying the genocide that they participated in during the war in Bosnia and Herzegovina from 1992 to 1995, or they have a vested interest in dismantling the sovereignty of the nation. Other parties who object to the work of the IRGC are bent on denying the Bosnian and Herzegovinian identity, history, language and deep roots of the nation’s diverse population. Through our own research and experience, the scholars of BAI have experienced various forms of intimidation, discrimination, and heavy-handed tactics by forces and parties who object to the very idea of Bosnia and Herzegovina as a sovereign nation. To that extent, we are unanimously aligned with the IRGC in our position to identify anyone who denies the Bosnian genocide, diminishes the identity of the Bosnian and Herzegovinian people, or threatens in any way the sovereignty of the nation of Bosnia and Herzegovina. These principles are foundational to our mission and vision, and we submit they are the very essence of civilized behavior in the Balkans—or at least, they need to be.
