I pošto su, pored ubijenja, nasilno protjerali više od 20.000 BošnjaÄkih civila iz Srebrenice sa ciljem etniÄkog ÄišÄ‡enja;
I pošto su taj masakr i masovna ubistva bili najveći zloÄin Evropi poslije Drugog svjetskog rata;
I pošto Dan sjećanja na Srebrenicu služi za odavanje poÄasti žrtvama i za borbu protiv mržnje i netrpeljivosti;
Zato ja, gradonaÄelnik Don Iveson, ovim proglašavam 11. juli 2021. Dan sjećanja na Srebrenicu u Edmontonu, glavnom gradu Alberte.
Whereas, in July 1995, during the Bosnian War, more than 8,000 Bosnian Muslim boys and men were killed by Bosnian Serb forces in the Srebrenica genocide;
And whereas, in addition to the killings, more than 20,000 Bosniak civilians were violently expelled from Srebrenica in an act of ethnic cleansing;
And whereas, the massacre was the worst episode of mass murder within Europe since World War II;
And whereas, Srebrenica Remembrance Day serves to honour and remember those who lost their lives and to champion standing up to hate and intolerance;
Therefore I, mayor Don Iveson, do hereby proclaim July 11, 2021 Srebrenica Remembrance Day in Edmonton, Alberta’s capital city.
