Dear Hon. Robert Oliphant,

Dear Hon. Robert Oliphant,

As a great fighter for truth and justice in the world and as a great friend to Bosnia and Herzegovina on the behalf of 100,000 Canadians with Bosnian and Herzegovinian origin that we appeal to you with the request to re-activate the procedure for the adoption of legislation (Bill C -533 an Act respecting a Srebrenica Remembrance Day) which you proposed to the Canadian parliament in 2010.  As you know, the law has passed the first reading in Parliament.

In the meantime, the Canadian Parliament has adopted two resolutions regarding the genocide in Srebrenica. Also, the Canadian museum of human rights and freedoms set up an exhibition on the genocide in Srebrenica. The mayors of Hamilton and Windsor have made decisions to declare July 11 as a day of remembrance for the victims of the genocide in their communities.

More than 20 years have passed since the greatest crime after the Holocaust in Europe, the genocide in Srebrenica. Canada as a county with the highest standards of human rights and freedoms is an example to other countries on how to treat these rights and freedoms. With the adoption of the law, Canada would become the first country in the world where the law regulates July 11 as a day of remembrance of the victims of genocide.

Count on the full support of all the organizations and communities with Canadians of Bosnian and Herzegovinian origin. Also, take into account the support of many Canadian organizations for the protection of human rights and freedoms upon this action.

On the day that you re-submit this law, representatives from the organizations and communities of Canadian Bosnian and Herzegovinian origin, will be present in Ottawa to give all the members of the Canadian parliament the flower of Srebrenica which symbolizes the crimes of genocide. We asking that you provide us with the the authority of parliament to help us in doing this.

Sincerely yours.
