34 Years of Bosnia and Herzegovina in the United Nations: The most important Date for the Restoration and Confirmation of Statehood

On May 22, 1992, the Bosnia and Herzegovina flag with lilies flew in front of the UN building and at the same time this date represents one of the most significant dates in the history of Bosnia and Herzegovina. IGC expressed his congratulations to the citizens of Bosnia and Herzegovina today, as the country marks the 34th anniversary of its admission into the United Nations as a full-fledged member state. The act of accepting Bosnia and Herzegovina as an equal member and raising the flag with lilies in front of the United Nations building on May 22nd 34 years ago, is undoubtedly the most important date for the restoration and confirmation of Bosnian statehood in international relations.

The determination of humanity, countries around the world, to confirm the uniqueness of the state and society, sovereignty, integrity, and independence of BiH all these 34 years and today is the foundation and most important support in overcoming obstacles, Scylla and Charybdis through which it passed and passes. That, despite and against the old ethnoterritorial pretensions of Serbia and Croatia, it is irreversibly stepping towards the community of sovereign states and modern democratic countries.

United Nations did not cope with the situation in Bosnia and Herzegovina in one such situation, how to prevent and react to the crimes committed during the aggression on Bosnia and Herzegovina.

On this historic date, Bosnia Herzegovina became a member of the United Nations, we want to use this opportunity to congratulate all of its citizens. We also wish to note, with deep satisfaction, that Bosnia and Herzegovina has made significant contributions to the work of the United Nations, including with its successful tenure as a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council, and also with its participation in peace keeping missions worldwide.
