?The Institute for Research of Genocide Canada (IGC) is a non-profit scientific and research organization based in Hamilton, Ontario. It focuses on studying crimes against peace, human rights violations, and the crime of genocide—with a primary historical emphasis on the Bosnian Genocide and combatting genocide denial.

Researching the context and victims of genocides, archiving documentation, opposing genocide denial, and promoting international justice and human rights.

 

The most important work of the Institute for Research of Genocide Canada  (IGC) centers on documenting the 1995 Srebrenica and broader Bosnian genocides, fighting historical revisionism, and lobbying the Canadian government to recognize atrocities and criminalize genocide denial. The organization functions as a public scientific body dedicated to truth, justice, and building a culture of remembrance.

Combatting Denial: Campaigning actively against the public denial or minimization of the Bosnian genocide. 

Legislative Advocacy: Partnering with Canadian lawmakers to secure official state recognitions, remembrance days, and legislative petitions. Historical Documentation: Publishing scientific research, academic analyses, and organizing educational forums on crimes against humanity. 

 

Key Milestones

Parliamentary Resolution: Successfully championed the 2010 unanimous adoption of the Srebrenica Genocide Resolution by the Canadian Parliament. 

Advocacy Petitions: Spearheaded e-petitions (such as Petition e-1837) urging federal action to make the denial of the Srebrenica genocide illegal under Canadian law. 

Community Education: Collaborating with municipal leaders, academic groups, and the Canadian Museum for Human Rights to establish permanent public awareness and educational programming.

 

The Institute's most important project "The Srebrenica Textbook”

 

"The Srebrenica Textbook”is an educational project and publication by the Institute for Research of Genocide Canada. The project is designed to ground the culture of remembrance in court-established facts, historical data, and the UN General Assembly resolution on Srebrenica. 

 

Key Details of the Project

Publisher & Lead: Institute for Research of Genocide Canada.

Core Purpose: To move past raw statistics and focus on human, personal, and collective experiences through an educational framework suitable for schools, universities, and memorial centers. 

Foundation: Built upon international court verdicts and the United Nations General Assembly resolution on Srebrenica (which Canada co-sponsored). 

Goal: To fight against genocide denial, revisionism, and hate speech by institutionalizing educational truths globally and locally in Canada. 

 

The Institute for Research of Genocide Canada proposes cooperation with Humaniti Canada in the sense that Humaniti Canada would print the English edition, including marketing and distribution.
