Subject: Letter sent to UEFA + formal request regarding implementation of the UN Resolution on Srebrenica within the EU Member States 

Dear Commissioner Kos,
Dear High Representative Kallas,

Please find attached for your information the letter that was sent to UEFA concerning the glorification of Ratko Mladi? and genocide denial in football.

We would kindly ask you to take note of this letter, and in your contacts with UEFA, you raise this issue and ask what concrete steps UEFA is taking in response.

We further use this opportunity to formally request your attention and action regarding United Nations General Assembly Resolution 78/282 on the International Day of Reflection and Commemoration of the 1995 Genocide in Srebrenica.
 

We specifically request that you urge all EU Member States to fully and effectively implement this Resolution, adopted on 23 May 2024 including clear measures against genocide denial and the public glorification of those convicted for the genocide. What has been done with this Resolution in the meantime in the EU Member States? 

 

If you would need advice in this regard, I would be glad to share some ideas together with other survivors of Bosnian genocide. 

We welcome Commissioner Kos’s decision to cancel the planned visit to Belgrade, it was the best diplomatic response and certainly necessary. The open glorification of a convicted genocidaire is incompatible with the values of the European Union and must be met with firm political answers. We trully hope that also Ms Von der Leyen and EEAS will continue their activities, public and informal in line with this approach and following the principles and the letter of the UN Resolution from 2024. 

Last but not least, for me (on personal note) this ‘Mladi? episode’ is not an incident but just another attempt by Vu?i? regime to continually destabilise the whole region and keep constant tensions among citizens in Bosnia.

 

 In the time we are living in, war in Iran and Ukraine and Trump administration explicitly undermining the whole judicial system in The Hague and even trying to create ‘MAGA’ on the world map, this politics is a clear and present danger not only for the Western Balkans but also for the mere existence of the European Union it self and the world peace. 

 

In the worst case scenario it could mean armed conflict in Bosnia (as it almost occurred around 1 March 2022) and on the territory of the Union itself.

 

Four years ago NATO responded firmly and escalations on the ground are avoided, but the question is what will happen next time. The issue is not solved and EU should reconsider its overall policy towards regime in Belgrade and take all this into account instead of ‘keep pampering the beast’. 

 

That was the policy of Europe 35 years ago and resulted in wars of aggression, concentration camps (I am former Omarska detainee (and former EU official)), million refugees, mostly in the EU MS, over 120.000 death casualties, hundreds of cities and towns destroyed, and genocide in Srebrenica deliberately not prevented by France, UK and the USA and under ‘supervision’ of the UN soldiers The Netherlands. 

 

Do we really need to go through it all over again in our lifetime? 

 

Me and some other representatives gathered in the initiative ‘World for Bosnia’ are open for cooperation and possible meeting in Brussels with you and the members of your staff.
